WESTPORT, Last Night An amateur boxing tournament held at Westport on Saturday evening, when five special bouts were staged, which all went the full distance. J. Woodward defeated Gus Parkey; H. Wake defeated A. Hawes; A. Thomson defeated S. Hawes; C. Martin (Seddonville) defeated J. Garvey (Runanga); M. Moulin (Christchurch) defeated H. Rathner (Wellington) The bout Garvey v. Martin, was a thrilling go. It was six years since they had met. Martin then sustained a broken hand and later met with another accident, which prevented his re-entry into the ring until now.
