AUSTRALIA’S CATTLE.

On page 66 of our February issue appears a table, extracted from the N.Z. Official Year Book for 1925, headed “The World’s Cattle.” An anonymous subscriber returned his paper, with this remark across the back of the wrapper, “Are there no cattle in Australia or is that country’s omission due to the jealousy so usual in New Zealand?” The childish outburst, of course, needs to comment, but it enabled us to dx*aw the Government Statistician s attention to the omission, which was found to be due to a slip between the office and the printer, as the Year Book for the two previous years con. tained the information, which was also bn the Statistician’s office records for 1925, but escaped printing. We find that the latest returns give the number of cattle in Australia as 14,336,673.
