EXTENSIVE PROGRESS MADE.

Tne Department's agents 111 various parts of the World have been authorised to name photographs for display in hotels, shipping companies offices, etc., and very gratifying results are nemg received as to the willingness of notelkeepers. to display our photographs, in Sydney, lor instance, attractive displays have been made in the Hotel Australia, the Bondi, Sydney, and Metrqpole Hotels by which means a large number of the. travelling public will be reached. Arrangements have also been made tq prowde caoinets for New Zealand literature for these hotels. *
The Publicity Officer in London is busily engaged in the preparation of newspaper articles for the English press and tq assjist him to meet the increasing demand large numbers of articles a,re being written here and despatched to London. The High Commissioner reports that over 400 lectures on (New Zealand were given during the last quarter of last year. As New. Zealand's fishing attracts a large number of anglers from overseas arrangements are now an hand to procure some swordfish and mako shark heads from the fishing grounds at Mayor Island, in addition to which a number qf large trout will be obtained and mounted, for the purpose of displaying iota the Canadian Pacific Railway and other places for view by tourists. As regards the Publicity Board proposals are now on foot for the launching of a poster campaign with this object in view, 2000 posters of various subjects have already been despatched to; England, Australia, and America. Addresses were made to the Board during the last lew days by Miss N. Scanlan and Mr Will Lawson both of whom have recently returned from ah extended tour 01 Anierica, Very useful suggestions as to the best method of reaching the. American public were made by both speakers and future publications will be modelled qn the fanes suggested. Mr Lawson said that -the two latest folders issued here are quite as good as any seen by him in the United States.
There are several new publications in course of preparation, large numbers of which wiill be required for distribution among members of the American Fleet. It has been suggested til at literature, lantern slides and film be. distributed amongst the snips at Honolulu to allow .officers and men to gain some knowledge of the Dominion before arrival fiere. New photographs and cinematograph films are continually being obtained—three publicity photographers having been traversing the South Island during the past twq months obtaining farming and scenic pictures. Mail, agents on trans-pacific liners are toeing well-supplied with advertising literature for.the information of passengers wbiich together with that displayed through the shipping company should meet the requirements of intending tourists. The Tourist Department has arranged for an officer to meet all overseas steamers with a view tq giving information to travellers.
