VALEDICTORY.

FAREWELL TO MR F. KARSTEN

At the Miranui mill on Monday evening a social was tendered Mr r. E. A. KarstQn by the employees of Messrs A- and L. Seifert, Ltd. The gathering was presided over by Mr a. Seifert and a.bout .160 persons were present. Mr Karsten, who has been in the firm’s employ for the past 17i years, is leaving to take up a responsible position at Mr F. Wall’s mill hi the. Wairarapa, He will be greatly missed in Shannon and Makerua, where be was he.ld in high respect by all whom he came in contact with. An enjoyable time was spent by those present, in song and music, and toe following toasts were honoured:— “The King,” Mr A. Seifert; “The Firm,” Mr G. Hemmingsen, replied to by Mr A. Seifert; “Ladies,” Mr Redder, reply Mr Gillespie; “Miranui Co-operative Society,’ Mr Biack, reply Mr Eagle; “Library Committee,” Mr Duggan, reply Mr Robftiison; “Our Guest,” Mr A. Seifert, reply Mr Karsten; “Miranui Football Club,” Mr Y. Croon, reply Mr B. Sutherland. During the evening Mr Seifert on behalf of the employees, presented Mr Karsten with a, case of pipes, pouch and shaving outfit. In making the presentation he referred to the many good qualities possessed by Mr Karsten, stating that he had joined the firm during the first year ol' its existence and had worked his way from one of the lowest positions in the mill to taking charge ,of. the strippers. He said his genial personality would be missed in the mill, but they would all wish him every success in his new venture and they would always welcome him back to the mill either as a visitor or as an employee.

Mr Karsten suitably replied; thanking all for their kind wishes. The following items were greatly appreciated by the gathering:—Humorous stories, Mr A. Seiiert; songs, Messrs G. Bemingsen, and D. Cameron, and W. Karsten; musical items, Messrs Bell and Taylor; Bain, Briggs and Halliwell.

The evening came lot a conclusion with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” in which all joined.
