LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
CLUB FORMED IN SHANNON. A well-attended meeting was held in the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening for the purpose of forming a League Football Club in Shannon.
Mr D. McLaggan, who presided, I outlined the conditions for forming a League Glub, pointing ouf that one of the great advantages of men playing under League rules was that players did not have to hear their own travelling expenses when Playing away from their home town. He said there was no doubt both from a spectators’ and players’ point of view the League game was the best, in the Manawatu Centre this season there would be lour teams ccfhipetmg, exclusive of Shannon, and if it was decided that evening to form a Club lie could assure them that he already had a first class team that could be put in the field.
Alter the meeting had discussed the question it was decided that a League Football Club be formed in Shannon. A management and all duties committee consisting of Messrs McLaggan, J. Hemmingsen, J. Holden, Coyle, senr. and junr., O. Johansen, and F. Eagle with power to add was set up to carry on the management of the club. It was also decided to affiliate with the Manawatui Centre. The chairman announced that Dr., Thacker, who takes a prominent part in League matters, would, be visiting Foxton shortly find arrangements could he made for him to come to Shannon and address the members. It was resolved to write to the Borough Council applying for the use of the Domain for the coming season. on a fifty-fifty basis, with the Rugby Union. it was decided to hold the next meeting on Friday evening next, when the management committee will report and the election of. officers will take place.
