ANNUAL MEETING. meeting of members of the Shannon Football Club was’ held on Saturday evening, when there was a large attendance of members and ten^ lng members. The president (Mr W. Murdoch) presided. Dalzell, nominee to management committee of the Union, Mr T. Dalzell; selectors: seniors, Messrs .1. Hennessey and K. Bartholomew, juniors left in the hands of the management committee, thirds Mr W Easton.

lt was agreed that the subscilptiotis be the same as last season, viz:— Seniors and juniors 5s plus insurance, and thirds 2s 6d plus insurance. INSURANCE OF MEMBERS. The 'President moved that it be an instruction to the delegate to the Union to 1)11 ng forward for payment by the Union the 6s in the club's balance sheet paid on account of an accident and urge to have the insurance fund placed on a satisfactory footing.— Carried.

Mr Robertshawe said (he question of insurance of players was one that had been very unsatisfactory so far as country unions were concerned and he instanced one case where a Union nearby had £127 to commence the season with and at the end ol the season it had all gone ow’ing to the number of accidents. He was of opinion the only remedy was for each individual to. insure himself.

Mr W. Moynihan. said this question had been well thrashed out by the Union and leading insurance companies had been approached, but no satisfactory basis had been found. BEGR EATI ON GUO UNO fc?. Mr Heimuingseh referred to the delay in carrying oot improvements at the Recreation Grounds, stating the Club was in precisely the same position as a year ago in respect, to the ground. He went on loi say that £SOO had been raised by public contribution and approximately £2-50 Had been spent, but fqr the benefit of sport nothing. The Mayor: What about the drainage?

Mr Hemmingsen started to ml vers--ly criticise the manner under which the drainage had been done, but was ruled out of order by the chairman. Mr Hemmingsen then moved, That it be a recommendation to the committee in charge of the money raised by the public for improving' the recreation grounds that the grounds be placed in order immediately. At this point Mr MoLaggan asked. “Who gave the secretary authority to apply to the Council for the use ol the ground.” The secretary stated lie had tried tu> get a meeting of the management committee but could not get them together, and knowing the (ground had tq he arranged for he-had acted on his own.

The chairman: The secretary’s action can be confirmed. Mr Bobertshawe moved and Mr T. Moynihan seconded, that the secretary’s action be confirmed. Mr Hemmingsen: I want this matter discussed. A member; Is this a deputation from the League? Mr McLaggan: No. Mr VV. Moynihan: If Uie League have igot any objections let them wait on the meeting as a deputation. The chairman then put the motion, That the secretary’s action in applying for the use of the grounds be confirmed. This was carried. Mr Hemmingsen protested agamsl what he termed the high-handed way of, putting a motion' through wilHn.ni discussion. Mr McLaggan: This sort ol Hung is the ruination of Rugby, secretaries taking things on their own. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Brann for auditing the club's books. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.

The Masterton Racing Club lost £lO9 17s 8d on the recent meeting. Totalisatior tax amounted to £251 16s and amusement tax to £l2 16s Sd. “Let those who are inclined to doubt, compare those towns in New Zealand that have gone in for much needed improvements, such as roads and footpaths with those that have not, and they will then see the difference between progress and stag-nation."-—Patea Press.
