GORRESP OINDEN CE„ Prom tiie secretary, Piunket Nurse Society, replying to. title Chambers request lor particulars of procedure for opening a sub-branch of the Society, stating tliat it is usual to call a meeting oi citizens interested in Piunket work and the writer’s committee would arrange for speakers to address the meeting on the aims and objects of the Society and make the necessary arrangements, such as procuring a suitable room and necessary requirements, etc., butt these were often procured free, of charge. The cost for one day per week would be £3O per annum:, paid half yearly. The letter stated sub-branches in other places had had no difficulty in raising tne necessary money and the waiter did not think .Shannon would be an exception. The Committee meets on the third Friday in every month when the matter would come before them. •—lt \yas resolved to write to the Flunket Society asking them to fix; a date when speakers will address a meeting at Shannon and then the Chamber will call a meeting. DAIRY CONTROL. The following wire was received from the* secretary-of the Executive of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce: “The Executive- thinks the Association should enter a strong protest on behalf of chambers against the issue at this stage of an Order-in-Council giving the Dairy Control Board complete control of the industry; clearly understood extreme power would be used only in case of emergency; no circumstances have arisen justifying such course; would involve -serious disturbance commercial, interests, transfer of business to less experienced hands and would probably militate against interests of producers and consequently of country. Please wire your opinion. Matter urgent.” . Owing to not having sufficient information on the matter it was decided to hold over discussion until next, meeting. A similar request was also received from the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. RAILWAY POLICY.
In regard to the proposal of the Railway Department to make a nonstop run of the mail trains between Wellington and Palmerston North, the President of the Levin Chamber of Commerce wrote asking for the Chamber’s support against the proposal. After a short discussion it was decided to reply stating the Chamber were satisfied with the revised timetable as proposed for speeding up the mail trains and that no action be taken. . / . The meeting terminated with thanks to the chair.
