LEVIN MARKET.
BEEF STILL HARDENING. There was a good yarding of all kinds of stock at the Levin yards yesterday, although not up to the extra heavy yarding experienced for the past few weeks. Beef was in short supply, only a few. pens of medium cows being offered. There was keen competition for aii offerings and prices showed an upward tendency, pot.er bulls on the other hand, noticeably declined in price, in sympathy .vith outside markets. Sheep were in fair supply, the market being slightly weaker, except for twes, which maintained late rates, l and 6-year' ewes making 34/6. a number of lines of rams were offered and fetched satisfactory values. Pigs were in average supply, late rates being maintained. 'Prices were as follow: Pigs.—’ weaners 13/6 to 16/6, stores 2.1/6 to 25/6, light porkers 36/6, heavier £•> 4/ to £2 17/, purebred Berkshire boars £3 3 j Sheep.—Prime fat ewes 34/, 4 and 6-year ewes 34/6, 4 and 5-year ewes 25/6, woolly rape lambs 26/, Southdown rams 6 to 8J guineas, Romney rams 2,4, to 8 guineas. ’Cattle.—Fat cows, medium weights £5 5/ to £6 5/, light £4 to £5, forward cows £2 18/ to £3 15/, store cows 24/ to 35/, vealers £2 2/, 4 and 5-year forward bullocks £lO 5/, 3-year steers £7 1/, weaner heifers 25/ to 27/, light potter 1?ulls 35/ to £3.
