RAILWAYMEN AS TERRITORIALS

From June next, all railway employees of military age will agai’a be liable for service with the Territorial forces. Since 1921 ,the various railway battalions throughout New Zealand were disbanded, this being part of the retrenchment scheme which resulted from a heavy curtailment of the Defence Vote for that year. In ( the general orders for February a notice appears instructing area officers , to get into touch with the railway dis- | triet officers and obtain lists of names I of all railway employees of military . age, and particulars as to the nature . of their employment. This only applies to what is known as effective areas, that is, centres where-militarv J training is carried on. Those who are I in ’non-effective areas will not have to carry out training.
