WHERE WESTERN WOLTHS THRIVES.

This plant succeeds best on deep loams, fertile flats, or fairly strong wheat lands, provided the land is in good heart, and has been thoroughly cultivated. Very fair crops can be grown on fairly light soils, but this grass will not grow to advantage on very light, shingly .soils. On the other hand, it will thrive on deep, peaty soils, inclined to the wet and even waterlogged in winter,, as it- comes awav very quickly in early spring, as soon as the weather commences to warm up the soil. AutunVn is the best time to sow Western Wolths grass, as it almost invariably gives best results when sown at hat season, provided that the seed bp sown not, later than February oi March. In fact, it is all the better if sown during the present month, provided there is sufficient moisture present in the soil to give the plants a good start. Generally speaking a better seed can be obtained in autumn than in spring' , especially on land inclined to be wet. If early enough in the season. a good feeding can be had in late autumn and early winter, when it will come in very handy for topping off lambs or old ewes. Moreover it gives excellent grazing in the .spring just when feed of that character is most welcome.
