WHEN PULLETS SHOULD LAY
Pullets which have been hatched early and others which have been unduly forced are apt to come on to lay before they are properly matured, and it is necessary to prevent this happening. It will be found that the best time to get the pullets on to lay is about the middle of February, in fact, if they are allowed to lay before then, there is a great chance of their goii;g into a moult, or at least a partial moult, which will stop them laying and preevnt egg production for a time when eggs are fetching top prices. Should there be any reddening of the combs before the end of the year, then the method to adopt is to move the birds on to other ground and feed less food; at the same time when doing so do not make a .y great change all of a sudden, as that in the end will in many cases bring on a moult. n Give as much nice fresh green food as the birds will eat, as it goes a long way in keeping the blood cool and also extending the size of the crop, which will later on enable the bird to store more food when full grown.
