MANGAORE NOTES.

Millar (Daiinevirke;, C. L. Broad, V.. croon J. Gurran and <•• Bartholomew oiaunon). Tne following toasts were duly honoured;—"The King," proposed i>y the chairman (Mr, A. R, Blackwood); "The job," proposed by Mr J.. T. Bovis, responded by Mr A. J. Bidler; "Kindred Sports.," proposed by Mr W, Moynihan, responded by Mr K. S.. Henry; "The Guest," proposed toy Mr A. a. Blackwood; "The Visitors," proposed bv Mr T. Cooper, responded by Mr J. Brann; -Tne P.W.D,," proposed by Mr W. Moyuihau, responded toy Mr j. R. Moody; "The Ladies," proposed by Mr J. W. Murray, responded toy Mr J. S. Burgis; "The Power House Staff," proposed toy Mr A. R. Blackwood, responded by Mr 3. W.. Swaney; "The Performers and Musicians,"- proposed by Mr W. Burnett, responded by Mr R. P. Goote. Mr Blackwood, in proposing the toast of the evening '.'The Guest," spoke in glowing praise of the responsible duties Mr Gavey had carried out during his term of office at the Mangahao Hydro Works, the speaker then went on to say how. he had found him personaly and it had been a pleasure for him and his staff to. work under a chief of Mr Gavey's calibre, although a loss, to the Shannon office, it was promotion at the other end. Mr Blackwood then presented Mr Gavey with a case of pipes, and trusted that same would bring back memories ol davs spent with the staff at Mangaore. Mr ; Gavey suitably responded and in a few words thanked the stall fov the presentation and the smoko they had given him that evening, and he would always remember the wishes bestowed upon him. Musical -items were rendered by Messrs J. W. Swaney (song), R. P. Coote (character songs), E. E. James (song), J, T. Bovis (song), I. p. Leverich (song), K. S. Henry (song), G. W. Nelson (song) t R.. Moynihan (song), 1. Cooper (monologue), J. Gagliardi (recitation), A. R. Blackwood (song), 3. W. Murray (recitation), J. M. Mc-Gaw (travel talk), and Hawken's Jazz Band (chorus items). ' On Thursday afternoon at the P.w. D. offlce, occasion was. taken of farewelling a member of the office staff, Mr J G Moore, who has been transferred to the Lands Department, Matakaone. Mr A. J. Ridler (Chief Clerk in making a presentation remarked that during the two year's service rendered with" the P.W.D., Mr Moore had proved himself a most obedient and faithful officer, and wished him everv success in his new sphere. Messrs K. S. Henry and G-. w - Nelson 'also spoke. Mr Moore suitably replied.
