SACRED CONCERT.

The appeal made ny his Worship the Mayor to the local churches to assist him with a sacred concert for Hospital funds, toi be given at an early date -met with a ready response at a meeting held in the Parish Hall last Tuesday evening. It was most .encouraging to meet with such entmisiasin. and find &Q many willing to assist in such a deserving cause. The plight of the sick and suffering sliould always appeal to those, in good health, and the desire of the thirty present at the meeting was to do their utmost to make the concert, a great success. An' energetic committee., representative of the churches, was elected to arrange tiie musical contributions of the programme. Mr Howard Andrew has been selected as Musical Director, and 'Mrs Jones as accompanist. The audience can toe assured of a real • musical treat. Among the items already arranged for are vocal and instrumental soios and anthems to be given by combined choirs, which go into training immediately. It is proposed to hold tbe concert oai a Sunday evening in the Maoriland Theatre, and it is hoped that some of me hospital staff will be present and take up the collection. Those from this district who have had cause to use the Palmerston; North Hospital speak very highly indeed Of the attontioni and skill' of the staff, and it is hoped they and oliher dwellers oi Shannon will show their appreciation of ihe noble work carried on in that institution. "The lot of man" is somewhat uncertain and it behoves all to help those in trouble. By attendance at the concert citizens will give encouragement to those, trying to assist tlhe hospital financially, and toy a htoeral contribution will prove to tne hospital staff their appreciation for what they have done.
