FORGING AND CLICKING.
This defect in a horse is caused by the toe of the hind shoe striking the inner ground surface of the shoe of the front foot of the corresponding side It is a source of great annoyance, but it is seldom that an injury results. .
, 'Pile trouble may be said to be caused by defect in conformation,. by fatigue, or want of attention to the feet. In the last case it often happens that the feet arc allowed to grow too long, or the shoes may be too large and too heavy.
A remedy may be found in careful and considerate driving. The horse should be kept well up to his bit, and not be loosely driven in a go-as-you-please fashion. He should also not be over-tired by driving too far or too fast or put behind loads for which he is unfitted. Condition is also an important factor. ■ When the feet are too long, they should be attended to, and, as regards shoeing, the fore shoes may have a marrow-seated web at the toe, and the hind shoe made with side clips, as short in the toe as possible, and the outer wall at the toe rasped down and rounded off.
