Tbe monthly meeting of the Executive of the Shannon Chamber of Commerce was. held last evening, Mr Thwaites presiding. CORRESPONDENCE.

A parcel of interesting literature, relative to the Wembley Exhibition, was received from. iMr J. Hesford, who has been attending the Exhibition. Mr Hesford was accorded a vote of thanks..

' From the Minister of Railways, re the inadequate accoihmodation at the parcels office at the Railway Station stating it had been decided to erect two shelves to cope with the congestion of parcels.—-It was decided that the Department be again written to pointing out the volume of business at the parcels office, and regretting their decision to only repair the shelves and again urge that the additional accominQdation toe iprovided for inward and outward luggage. A reply was received from the secretary of the Plunket Nurse .Society re a visit to Shannon by a Plunket Nurse one day a week stating that the Society was awaiting the appointment of a permanent nurse at Qtalu and when this appointment was made the out station nurse will be available to visit Shannon one day pe.r week and that the matter wifi be fully considered at the next meeting of the Plunket Committee. The Secretary stated he had written to ascertain if any guarantee was. to toe made but he had received no reply. The secretary of the Wellington Fire Underwriters Association replying to a request for a report and advice on the equipment of a fire brigade in Shannon stated he was ol opinion that the requirements of the town couid be adequately met by an efficient volunteer system, also that any considerations for reason of water supply and fire brigade equipment can of course be extended toy consequential reduction in insurance premiums in accordance with the standard laid down toy the Council. He recommended the Chamber to write Cant. Watts, advising superintendent of the United Fire Brigades Association, Auckland for further information, preparations could toe made ana everything would then toe in readiness to - form a brigade when the. Whole borough had been reticulated mid he moved that further information tot obtained now: and that Capt. Watts be written to*—This was. agreed to. On iMr Tippler’s suggestion at was decided to write the Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce to ascertain then views on getting the road put thiough to connect up me two coasts.- It was stated there was. only seven miles o road to be formed to connect up Mangahao and Eketahuna.
