ANTHRAX AMONG SHEEP.
TOTAL OF FIFTY DEATHS. OUTBREAK IN AUSTRALIA. Alarm was occasioned recently by the reported outbreak of anthrax on a New South Wales holding within the jurisdiction of the Wagga Pastures Protection Board, but the anxiety was quickly relieved by the report of Mr F. H. Whyte, stock inspector. ! It was stated that a number, of sheep had died suddenly- on : th©lr; owner’s property in one of the northern areas, about a month ago. The rest of the sheep were promptly quarantined and inoculated. In all 60 sheep died and a postmortem examination proved that the cause of death was anthrax. After inoculation, no more sheep died, and every precaution was taken against the further spread of the outbreak.
The inspector has reported that the danger is past, and there is no cause for further anxiety on the part of sheep owners. It is many years since an outbreak of anthrax occurred 4n this part of the State.
