ENGINEER’S REPORT.
At last meeting ol the Hor-owhenuu Lower Board, the engineer', Mr T. o vertoil, reported as follows: nine construction. —The pole gang nave neen employed as follows; Completion of Te Horo loop; extension to lasman Beach; extension Rahui Valley; Tox ton Heads, high' tension line and 1 etioulation of the township. Wire Bangs No. A have run high tension wire as fax; as JTokomaru and low tension to Seifert's and Speirs’ Mills. Sixteen service lines. were changed in Shannon owing to reconstruction Qf telegraph lines. Twelve earth-guards were erected on the Tokouiaru line and five telephones placed underground. , Title temporary sub-station at Shannon was taken aown. Wire Gang No. 2 have run tne 11,000 volt fine from’Heatherlea corner to the School o 4 n Foxton road. low tension has been completed as far as Mr Speirs’. This gang have also run the. mgh tension Une. from Fox ton to. the Heads and are now, employed on the township reticulation. Twenty-five service lines, have been completed by ,ihe gang during the inontn. Wire. Gang No. 3 have completed the 11,000 volt lines, from utaki sub-station in. Rahui Valley; low tension along the main soutn road and extensions at the Tasman Beach, besides erecting 30 service lines. Wire Gang No. 4 bave coiifpieted the reticulation at Paekakariki, including 13 street lights; they also ran service lines at Brown’s Mill aim are now working on low tension service lines between Paraparaurnu and Paekukariki, connecting in all, eighteen services. Wire Gang No. 5 have be>en employed on service lines, in Levin Borough, Heatheriea Corner and Lindsay Road. They have also run the high tension wire along Gladstone and Kimberley roads, and connected up 20 service lines. Sub-station Gang have erected transformer platforms as. follows.; —Koputurou, Gladstone Road, Fox ton Heads, Lino to Rahui Valley, Te Horo, Speirs' Mill and Lindsay road. 'Pransionners iiave .be.en wired up at Browns’ Mill, Speirs’ Mill, Seiferts’ Mill, Lindsay Road, Queen Street, Buller road, Potts’ ro.ad -and Manakau.
Pole Lorry.—The lorry lias delivered 160 poles at different parts of the district and has been fully eiigageu carting out wire, transformers aim material to the gangs. Workshops.—One heavy line, switch lor Otaki sub-station and 60 low tension lus.es, for transformers, have been made up. New rear spindles and roller assemblies have been fitted in one of tlie Ford cars and spot-liglit on the Shannon truck. Routine work has been turned out as follows: —Cross arms 526, cross-arm stays 1181, hand-rail sets 3, earthpipes 32, triangle straps 750,*. watch Heaters, complete 11, angle hooks 50, earth-guard sets 26, top ana spacingblocks 80, pipe, stays 30, low tension straps' 920, air-break switches 2. Paraparaumu Groups has been formea and comprises 31 installations. The Waikanae Group will be completed next week. Foxton Heads Group will be completed before the holidays. .Negotiations for the supply of power and lighting to Manakau Sawmilling Company and Otaki Hospital are. now proceeding. . Messrs Eeles and GO. have ‘ practically completed their groups in Otaki. Messrs Manson and Barr are making good progress with their groups In Te Horo and Gladstone road. J. B. Wilson, Otaki, has commenced on tbe Paekakariki Groups, and Messrs. Maunder and Co. have completed Browns’ Mill, Te Horo factory and are now at Maiiakau factory. Messrs Lunn and Henley have completed Group 11, Levin. Messrs Allen and Giimour are now making substantial progress with their Levin Group and should complete same before the end of the year. Messrs Walls and Co. will complete the Foxton Group next week. Contracts: Particulars, of Tenders for the supply of meters are submitted herewith. I would t recommend acceptances as under: — (1) Polyphase meters —Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., £476 17s M. (2) Single phase meters—-A. D, Rncy and Co., Ltd., £697. 10s. Tenders are now being invited ior: (.1) Supply and delivery of triplebraided wire; (2) Supply and delivery of service fuses. ■ '
As both those contracts ares somewhat urgent, 1 would recommend that authority be granted the chairman and myself tQ accept the best offers. General.—The question of transport has been under consideration with a view to catching up increases in installation work, and l would recommend the purchase of a new car, without turning any of Our present cars in—authority was given to the chairman and myself at last meeting to turn • in one of the cars for a new one, but we find that we require an additional car, this being brought about chiefly by Tokomaru and Paekakariki work.
