LEVIN MARKET.
BEEF EASIER. There was an unusually large entry of cattle at the Levin weekly sale yesterday, the high prices ruling last w.eek probably inducing. fanners to rush stock on to the market. Whatever the reason the result was a steadying of prices, store cattle show- '■ ing a decidedly easier tendency. In beef, the only offerings were fat cows which also sold at a decline on last ' week’s rates. Only average quality stuff was offering, best cows making to £6 15s with others according to ‘ weight and finish. The yarding of sheep was small, but prices were well' maintained, fat woolly hoggets making to 465. Medium quality four-tooth shorn ewes with 1.00 per cent, of lambs made £2. Pigs were in fair supply and were slightly .easier than last week; ■ more particularly In store lines. Prices were as follow; — 1 Pigs; Weaners 17s 6d to 235, smaller 14s to 16s 6d, stores 26s to 355, porkers 38s to £2 15s. Sheep; Prime woolly hoggets 42s 6d . to 465, lighter 33s 7d to 38s, 4-tooth shorn ewes and lambs £2, good conditioned shorn 2-tooth wethers 335. Cattle: Fat cows £5 15s to £6 15s, lighter £4 to £5 9s, forward cows £2 15s to £3 10s, store cows 35s to £2 ss, dairy cows to £4 11s, 2-year heifers £2 10s to £3 10s, 2-year steers, mixed colours £3 7s, good yearling Jersey heifers £2 15s, P.A. bull £9 9s. .
