SAMOAN CHIEFS TO VISIT SHANNON.
There arrived in Auckland at the beginning of the week eight Samoan chiefs, and faipules who have, been brought to New Zealand by the Government and the programme -of the tour tiirough the. Dominion has been designed no.t only to he entertaining but' educational and instructive, as it is desired by the Samoan administration To transfer to the faipules or - native counsellors Qf the Samoan people an increasing share in the control and administration of their village affairs. 1 The chiefs are due to arrive in Wellington on Saturday, December 13th, on their journey from the north, which will be broken at Shannon in order that they can be taken out to inspect the Mangahao Hydroelectric works.’ Arrangements, are being made, for a welcome to them by the citizens oi Shannon. While travelling through the Dominion, the chiefs will wear their ordinary Samoan dress, except that they will replace their white linen coats with woollen vest and coat which will be suitable for the change of climate, they will e.xperienee.
