THE WELSH FIFTEEN.

CHOSEN SIX WEEKS AGO. The keenness of the Welsh'.Rugby Union for the fifteen to make a great show against, the All Blacks is clear from what happened at a meeting of the match committee recently. Instead of following the usual custom of preliminary trials, the committee went right out, choosing the probable Welsh fifteen, and then picking a side to oppose them, which they termed “The Rest,” and the game will be played at Aberavon next Saturday, October 18. There will be no less than 12 internationals in the Welsh fifteen, and all seven forwards were in the pack that met France in Paris in the last of the internationals last season, whefi Wales won by a dropped goal and two tries (10 points) to two tries (6 points). (The above is from the special correspondent of the “New Zealand Times.” Although the names have hot been announced the fact has,. been cabled out that Wales will be represented by fourteen old caps and one fresher. In the trial referred to above seven forwards were played, that being the formation to be adopted by Wales to-morrow. If the selectors are relying on the forward team that beat France at Paris the pack of seven will* be chosen from the foljowing eight:—C. Pugh (Maesteg), S. Morris (Cross Keys), A. Evans (Pontypool), J. Gore (Blaina), R. Randall (Aberavon), Dai Parker (Swansea), G. Hathaway (Newport), A. Richards (Cardiff) . Dr. 'Roche (Ireland), Neil Macpherson (Scotland), Dr. Bertram (Scotland) and R. Edwards (England), outstanding Welsh club forwards, are playing for the Home countries mentioned. Of the four British teams last season , Wales collared the “wooden spoon,” the following being the results of the Welsh games:—January 19: England won at Swansea, by 5 (one converted) to 3 unconverted tries. February 2: Scotland won at Edinburgh by 8 tries 'four converted) and a penalty goal *o 2 converted tries. March 8: Ireland von at Cardiff, by 3 tries (2 converted) to 2 tries (one converted). ■ — ‘Ponty.”)
