Tiie Arbitration Court is hearing tie New Zealand freezing workers.’ dispute.
The claims of the. Union are generally lor the restoration o.f conditions prior to the. 1921 award, before, the reduction i.n wages after the. slump. The rates of pay sought for slaughtermen are £1 19s 6d a hundred foY sheep, £1 17s for lambs, cattle Is 7d, pigs lrom Is 2d to Is a head. Overtime is claimed- at the rate of time and a-half for the first, four hours and double, thereafter. * There are also the questions bf the. horns of chambermen, fixed, time for tlie breakfast hour and a minimum rate for assistants.
For the Union it was pointed out that the award in 1921 was made under conditions of severe depression in the pastoral industry.
