PROBLEM OF PACIFIC.
NAVAIi EXPERTS CONFER. ' LONDON, Oct. 11. The problem of- the Pacfic, .-with special reference to Australia's position,; das discussed at a conference by Earl Bealty, officials of the British Admiralty and Mr. L. C. Ameryi (who was First Lord of the Admiralty in the Conservative Government). Mr. Walter Marks, M.H.R., was present. Mr. Marks also interviewed naval shipbuilding firms. He says* he believes that the construction of Australia's crusiers in Britain would insure quick delivery and save nearly £2,000,000. He .recommends that oil supply ships, a floating dock and a setplane carrier be built at Cockatoo Island, which he says, must be kept going. The oil carriers should be able going. The oil carriers should be able to carry seaplanes. Mr. Marks commented on the Genava disarmanent and arbitration protocol. He said that he was unable to discover an advocate of the protocol either in or out of diplomatic circles. The mapority of critics are convinced that it provides a clear road to attack on the White Australia policy. Therefore, Australia, as a member of the League, may be forced into a position of the gravest danger. America might well be envied for her isolation. .
. Japan's attitude, added Marks, did not surprise him. He was told dur_ ing the recent visit to Japan that the subject would be brought up at recent and future tssemblies of the League.
