N.Z. MILKING SHORTHORN ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL; MEETING. , A meeting of the Council of the above Association was held at Paimerston North last evening. President Mr Allan Fisher. Cambridge in the chair, also present 'Messrs W. J. Jenkins, Canterbury; A. J. Melville, Buckland, vice-presidents: J. M. Ranstead and H. Giles. Waikato branch. R. V. Brown and W. G. Deller Wellington branch; A. J. Anderson, Southland; E. Law, Bay of Plenty; J. Collins, Marlborough; A. Turn Dun, Taranaki; also a number of vasiting members from Waikato and other districts. The president reported on matters connected with the Royal Show and the request of the Association to remove the limit of age for championships had been granted. It was resolved to pass for payment the £SO promised as a donation to the Royal Society. It was decided to present Flock House with several photos of aninmls typical of the type. In connection with the proposal to import some young bulls from England as agreed to at the last annual meeting- the president reported that the proposal had to bo abandoned owing to the foot and mouth disease breaking out in Eng- > land which prevented the importation of the stock. The whole auestlon ; would have' to be deferred until the restrictions were entirely free. N The Agricultural Department notified the reduction in semi-official testing fees as from April next. 1M Council decided to discontinue tM prizes of £1 per lOOlbs of butter fat over the standard and offer a prlzo of £2O to any breeder who has not won any of the £SO prizes offered by the • Association for the highest per centage above the required semiofficial test standard for the year; and \ also with a view to encouraging members to test their cows the prizes j be awarded for semi-official tested animals to the value of £1 per each, lb of butter fat that a' cow's exceeds the previous record for thai class with a maximum of £IOO to be paid at any one time for any one cow; It was also resolved to ofler £3 3/towards the cost of first tested cows placed under semi-official test next season. The bonus offered not to be , available to winners of £SO semiofficial prizes already offered by the Association for semi-official records. The Canterbury branch reported that they had donated two challenge cups to the Canterbury show for Milking Shorthorn Classes. The president reported that Mr A. J. Melville, of Buckland, had won the £SO prize offered for highest record under semi-official test for the mature class. Glenthorpe Lady had produced 20,1321bs of milk, and 800 lbs butter, fat under semi-official test, thus making a fresh record for the Milking Shorthorns. He congratulated "Mr Melville on his success., This made th e fourth £SO prize awarded by the Association. He also referred to the new record recently made by Melba XV, of Darbalara, viz. 16171DS of butter fat for the year. He moved that the Council extend its heartiest congratulations to Mr Cole on the world's record obtained ,by his Milking Shorthorn cow Melba XV. It was resolved that the annual meeting of th© Association be he*d at Palmerston North in June, 19 20. The finances of the Association were reported as being in a very satisfactory position and it was resolved to reinvest the £506 war certificates that had matured.
