SMITH-KING, A wedding that created a. lot of interest jta. Shannon, to.ok Pl&<te at Ven. Bede’s Church on Wednesday last hoth bride and groom toemg vtery popular in Shannon, when Ethel Dorothy, third daughter of Mr and Mrs T. King, Of Stout Street, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Walter C. Smith, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Smith, of Pahiatua. The Rev. Mr Parnell officiated and the church was. packed. The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a frock of ivory satin marocai.% witii sleeves and panel of radium lace, caught on the hip with a cluster of orange blossom, her white tulle veil toeing held in place by a wreath of orange blossom. She carried. _ a beautiful shower bouquet of white carnations and azaHas. She was 1 attended by her sister, Miss Irene King, -as bridesmaid, wearing on apricot marocain frock with loops of apricot satin ribbon from the waist, caught under the hem of the skirt. She also wore a black lace hat with narrow moire , ribbon streamers. Her bouquet was of. yellow' irises with flame • tulle streamers. Little Miss Evelyn King, niece of the bride, was flower girl in 'shell pink crepe de • chine with frills of white Valenciennes lace, pink rosebuds and hairband of same. She carried a basket of pink. roses and lilies of the valley and asparagus fern tied with white silk ribbon. Both wore gold slave I tangles. the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Gordon Smith, as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s parents’ residence in Stout Street, where the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple were the recipients of many valuable presents, including a number of clieaues.
Later in the afternoon Mr and Mrs Smith lelt by car on their honeymoon, the bride travelling in a grey gabardine costume heavily braideu, grey georgette hat with mole osprey and shoes en suite. Her travelling coat was oi navy blue velo.ur cloth with grey fur collar.
Among the guests were Mrs TKing, mother oi the bride, navy blue costume, prettily toraffied add black hat, with boi quefc of roses; Mrs Smith, ■mother of the bridegroom 1 , lur and mown tulle hat, with bouquet of roses; Miss Duicie Smith, sister; emerald green crepe de chine, and grey tulle hat, with long green ribbon streamer; Mrs T. King, Jnr, grey crepe-de-chinei and grey hat witu small aprico.t roses; Mrs Frank King, grey silk maropain, mole tulle hat with fancy ribbon crown and long streamers; Mrs Jack King, navy blue three-piece costume with grey tulle hat. brim covered With flowers and long ribbon streamers; Mrs Sands, black crepe-de-chine with grey tulle hat; Mrs R, Coley, navy blue costume, hat to maten; Mrs B. Morris (Hastings), black crepe de chine, hat of black erepe-de-chin e and radium lace with black and white ospreys; Mrs J. Beard; grey gabardine costume, mauve hat-; Mrs J. J- Franks, nijggi- 1 ' brown crepe-de-chine ’ frock with patterned top, mole and bine hat; Mrs Balfour, lawn braided ooat, frock hat to match; Miss Elsie Johns (Wellington) cousin of the bride, pink marocain frock with apron effect in front grey straw hat, pink ospreys; Mrs B. W. Lister, Juji silk dress with sand-coloured- georgette hat; Mrs James Feetham, grey cloth costume, hat to match; Mrs J- Simpson, niggerbrown ooat frock, black and blue hat; Miss L'. Ryan, black and white crepe-de-chine frock, apron effect in front, black hat; Mrs J. Riches, turquoise blue satin dress, bended in gold, nigger broiwn radium lace hat; Miss G. Blake ' (Mangaore):, black sat-in-and lace.
