LABOUR DAY. TO URN AMEN,T.
On Monday .a progressive pairs tourney was held by the local club, on its green and those bowlers who took part spent a most enjoyable day. Although a howling gale was blowing, the effects* were mot felt on ilie green, which is well sheltered all round by hedges. During the day » some good games were witnessed and there wertj'many close finishes. Mr Capes proved the winner among the leads, winning al.l his games, viz., five. When the tickets were handed in it was found that Gunning, 'Whibley ' and Clayton had tied for the skips’ prize, having won four games ea.ch. They then drew for leads and played off. Whibley defeated Gunning by 7 to 2, the former being, defeated by Clayton by 5 to 2. Clayton thus taking the trophy. The following are the number of games won by the different players:— Skips —Clayton, Whibley. and Gun- ■ ning four each; Shannon, Spencer, and ’Knowles (3); E. Butt, * Quarrie,.
