BOWLING SEASON.

FOXTON. GREEN OPENED. On Wednesday afternoon the Fox-ton-"Bowling' .Club officially opened their season in the presence of qyer 100 bowlers and their friends, visitors being present from Palmerston North Levin and Shannon. The green was in good order and a most enjoyable. lafternoQn was spent. Two rinks each "from Shannon, Paimerston N., and Levin tqok part. During the course, of his speed* tile 'president, Mr Barr, presented the Wilijord Gup to Mr J. Thomson, who had proved himself the best junior player last season, also on the opening of the croquet season the president presented the various trophies won by the ladies last year. A most successful afternoon's sports was brought to a conclusion with a social and dance in the evening. The following are the scores qf the two Shannon rinks: E. Spencer, Aim, Watterstoii, and Murray (skip) 25 v. Takoro 23; Gunning! Gronquest, Roach and Clayton (skip), 17 v. Foxton 20. In the croquet tournament Mrs Brown, of Man. gaore, won the trophy for the day's play. ' " During the afternoon the Triangular Shield held by the Foxton Club was on view on the table and longing eyes were cast upon it by the Shannon players, who have the fondest hopes of securing the coveted trophy during this season.
