MANGAHAO CELEBRATION.
GOOD RESPONSE TO APPEAL FOR FUNDS. At Tuesday's meeting of the Shannon Borough Council the Mayor reported that the sum of £132 had come to hand from local <bodies as a contribution towards the Mangahao celebrations, a list of those who had subscribed being presented by the Town Clerk. ■ It was decided that a meeting of the Borough Council and Ghaniiber of Commerce be held on Friday evening to make arrangements. WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL WILL CONTRIBUTE, The, references made to the Mangahao celebrations at a meeting of th e Wellington City Council recently were based on a misunderstanding of the position, and as a result of fuller i knowledge, the has now decided to join financially in the arrangements. The fallowing letter has been received by the Mayor from the Town Clerk of the Wellington City Council:—''Referring to my letter of tne 27th inst.. regarding a contribution of £ls towards the celebrations of the" turning on at; the power at Mangahao 1 have to inform you that, the position hdJs been further explained to my Council, and I am instructed to state that they wfll have much pleasure in acceding to your request Will you,\ therefore, please consider the former', letter withdrawn."
