FQRTJUCiHiTLY MEETING. The. fortnightly meeting qf the Boroiign Council was iheld in the Council fcju'ajubers on Tuesday evening. Present: .The Mayor (Ma; W. Murdoch) and Crs. Beard, Gunning, Curran, Butt, nyue, Murray ahd Carter. I COKRESPONDENCE. I Application from N, Anderson, i.e----i vin road, to erect carshed on his proI perty.—Granted* 1 Faom A.' Dmnie, engineer, stating that the price fixed oy the Head Office fqf 0e carpenter's shed at Mangaore, is £2O, but that the shed wall be required until the end of November.—Decided to purdhajse the shed on the terms quoted. From W. Swindleiuurst drawing the attention of the Council to the shocking state qf the unformed road past his property at .the south end qf Vogel street, and requesting the Council to loi'in 'and metal same as access at present is practically impossible owing to the mud.—Referred to tihe Road Committee with a recommendation to give relief. WANDERING STOCK.

A discussion followed a question I asked by Cr. Hyde as tq whatt the 'position was.as regards the Ranger. Or. Butt "stated that a large number of people were using the roads and he would move that the roads be thrown open for a month. Gr. Gunning said flhe Ranger bad inlormed him' when questioned that the Mayor had tqld hum to ease up and therefore he was nqt going to make flesh ol 1 one and Ash of anotner. The Mayor said he had not done • Cr. Gunning asked what had been done ia respect to the cases struck out.

Ihe Mayor: Nothing. Gr. Hyde then moved and Cr. Gunning seconded: "That all the cases that were struck out be laid again."

Cr. carter considered the Ranger should be instructed to impound all stock, wihich in his opinion would have moire effect than prosecuting and that proceedings be taken only in extreme cases.

Gr. Hyde: I agree with Cr. Carter in the main, but I certainly think the case's which were struck out should be brought up again. An amendment was then moved by Cr. Carter -and seconded by Cr. Murray: That the Council do not go any further with the cases struck out, but that in future all stock found on the road Ibe impounded and second offenders sued.

Cr. Butt: I want to know what is going to be done with the Ranger. Cr. Beard: We are to blame, ourselves. The Ranger was instructed to go easy.

The Mayor: I did not. I told him noTtd be sending in twenty summons a week.

A vote was then taken, Cr. Carter' s amendment being carried by four votes to three. Gr, Curran, said he would not vote either way as he was one of those who had been summoned. It was decided that in future shepherding qf stock within the Borough boundaries will not t>e permitted. BOROUGH) IMPROVEMENTS.

Cr. Hyde, moved, and Cr. Murray seconded, That the Mayor, and Crs: Murray, Beard. Butt and the mover be a committee to goi into the question: of a new municipal building, street improvements and sewerage with a view to placing same before the ratepayers in November; they to report at the next Council -meetingCarried. GENERAL. It was decided that the electric light be installed in the BorougTi house in Stout Street immediately. Or. Gunning stated he had had Ms attention drawn io. the need Qf a notice board being placed qn the main county road near the factory, showing the stock route, as at pretsent some drovers were taking stock along Grey street past the school which was dangerous. —It was decided that the mutter be attended vo in the next financial year without fail.. Accounts totalling £247 .106 6.d were passed for payment.
