MAULED BY A HON.
< Mi\,P. C. Forrester, a young Englishmani has had the terrifying experience of being' embraced by a fullgrown lion ' and bitten all over the body. He* is now in hospital making a good recovery.
He was one of a party of. Kenya settlers who had been troubled with visits from a troop of lions at Gilgil, .where several valuable cattle had been lost. Mr. Forrester and another farmer, Mr. Allison, set out,armed with rifles, and having, tracked the lions succeeded only in wounding one. Infuriated, r tihe lion made a dash at Mr. Forrester, with, his companion, Mr. Allison, at close quarters. Mr. Allison: sought an opportunity for a faial shot, but, as he stated after wards, "the lion's head was mixed up with its victim. Two quick shots proved ineffective, but a third did the "trick. For a moment the lion rose as if to make another charge, but rolled off its victim and was dead." Mi-. Forrester said he suffered considerable pain and no little fright while being'mauled by the lion, liia struggle with the latter he declared . that he was. largely occupied in bring- ' its body broad-on so that his companion coivld get) in the fatal shot.
