MURDERED IN MEXICO.

Mr Herbert Yereker, an employee of the Eagle Oil Company, was shot dead on July 6th by bandits at Portrero, Vera Cruz. Mr Yereker met his death, it is stated, because of his refusal to hand over a sum of money demanded by the bandits. He had insisted on. remaining at Portrero when the military garrison had' been withdrawn. His body has been taken to Tampico. Reuter’s London Agency understands that Mr Herbert Vereker had already been twice captured by bandits, the last occasion being May 19 th, when after being held captive for some twelve days he was released, despite the fact that the ransom of 10,000 dollars demanded by the bandits had not been paid. Mr Vereker is a nephew of Admiral <?f the Fleet, Lord, Jellicoe, the Governor-General of New Zealand, his mother being a sister of Lady Jellicoe
