We regret that file above report was not available for the last issue of the News— an omission that naturally caused some disappointment to our .readers. The reason for its non-ap-pearance was that our usual football reporter toad been detailed to record the filial tuning-up of the Mangahao enterprise and the arrangements made to obtain a report Qf the football match miscarried. Perhaps we may be pardoned for thinking fhat the culmination of the great Mangahao undertaking was of slightly greater national importance than a football match. The fact can he put to our credit, however, fiiat our representative w,as the only journalist who has been on the spot at Mangahao during the past week and that his progress reports have been of so much interest that they have been re-printed in many other papers throughout the Dominion. In connection with this explanation we have received a letter from the Mayor in which Mr Murdoch makes the unworthy insinuation that petty parochialism was responsible for file omission of the football report. We assure his Worship that this was not the case. . As a matter of fact Shannon’s victory on Saturday was quite a popular one in. Levin as local residents who attended the match are aware.
