HIGH COST OF SEA TRIPS.
ROUND THE GLOBE FARES. AUCKLAND, August 2. An interes+ting comparison of the cost of travel is made by a writer in a rotary club circular, who states that Oversea passage rates • have practically doubled since pre-war times. The writer continues: "Under old conditions a first-class round-the-world passage ticket was obtainable for £l3O. For travel one way, via America and return via Suez, or vice versa. At present the cost of such a ticket is £236 first-class, "and £162 second saloon.
In 1917, a return passage via Suez from New Zealand to London cost £135 first and £Bl second, and' £43 third,.whereas to-day they cost £242, £l5B, and £Bl respectively. By direct route a return passage cost in 1917, £125 first, £66 second, and £37 third' whereas to-day they are £195, £132,' and £7O. Whether these rates will ever come down is a pronlem."-
