MONiiLLY MEETING OF SHANNON BRANjCH. Ihe monthly, meeting of the Shannon branch oi the i\ew Zeaiaiiu farmers' ! Union we,s held in the" council Chambers on Wednesday evening. The president (Mr R. L.Tippier) presided oyer a fair attendance of members.
CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received iroui the secretary oi, the Manawatu Provincial District, in respect jo increasing members' annual subscription to the Union. The proposal is that the subscription be sufficient to include a copy of the Farmers' Weekly newspaper posted to each individual member, a, proportionate .amount to be allocated to. the newspaper. The letter stated the Conference had been in sympathy with -the proposal, but before giving effect, to it,. decided that all Provincial Executives should refer the matter to tlie branches for consideration and. requesting the matter, be brought before members for meir v consideration. After discussing the matter those present, on the motion of Mi' 'DuschenskL seconded by_, Mr Taylor, agreed to the proposal that the subscription" be. increased by 10s providing each member receives free copies of the Farmers' Weekly. .From Mr.R. McVilly, General Manager of the N.Z. Railways, relative to the branch's representations regarding the dirty condition ; of four, 'cattle trucks' supplied 'for loading at Shannon recently, -stating : that he regretted to find there had been'cause for I complaint. He thanked tlie branch for bringing the matter under notice : and hoped that the steps taken will have satisfactory results and obviate tihe necessity vfoir a]ny future .com.- | plaint. • ' -.;■'■■ ] The . following new members were * elected::—Messrs Duschehski, Phillips I and Roberfe. From the Executive asking what..) concession the branch is prepared-to: make on its quota due, to enable the j Executive's debit to be changed to a J small credit.—^The secretary stated he had informed' tiie Executive that tlie branch was prepared to. hand over their capitation of' 5s on each new member elected during the year.—The action was confirmed. f A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
