TUESDAY'S, MEETING. The ordinary Meeting of.'in..- .shannon Borough Council wiia ueid on lulesday evening, present: His Worship tiie Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch), Crs. Butt, Curran, Hyde, Gunning, Beard and Carter. COBRESI^ONDENGE. Prom public .Warts iDepartment advising that at no time has ihe Department given any promise thaf they would build a ibridga for vehicular traffic across the Mongaore stream at Sheehan Street.—Resolved to again write tile Department the evidence of the meeting .when the bridge was mentioned to he submitted to the head oi the Department.
From r, Buckman stating he wished to make an explanation about his cattle being on the road. Mr Buckman said when he went to the pictures his cattle were securely fastened m the paddock,, but on his return they were out. The only conclusion he could come to was that they had been let out hy some person unknown.—Resolved that the explanation on this occasion be accepted, but if these cows are out again the ranger is to' take action.
From j. McPherson tendering his resignation, as sanitary contractor.—it was pointed out that the contractor had a lot to put up with and had had heeai a good servant to the Council.—Resolved .that his resignation' be accepted with regret and that applications be called for the/ position. The selection of a suitable man was left to the Road Committee.
From the Borough Ranger stating Ills side, of the matter in relation to impounding stock off Vanoe street on May 10 and 11, 1924,-Resolved that the ranger's explanation be accepted as satisfactory. -^.
From A. C. Boyd, asking for progress payment for work done at Borough cottage, Stout Street—Referred to Engineer.
From the Horowhenua County advising that the matter of Stansell's drain had been referred to the councillors lor the riding with the Engineer for consideration.
From Mr Burling, manager for Mr F, Bryant, that the Council's letter requesting tiie removal of floodgate, had been forwarded to. Mr Bryant in England, who will reply in due course. SEWERAGE'SYSTEMS. From the Montgomery-Neilsoh Sewerage Company, asking to meet the Council o,r a. ■ committee this week. The object in meeting the committee would be to prove to. them that the statement recently made regarding the attention required by (heir system was an absolute fallacy. Further, should the company be' privileged to again enter into negotiations with the Council regarding treatment works, they would be quite prepared to make arrangements with them involving their own money whereby they would absolutely guarantee thai the tank would not need as much attention as an ordinary septic tank, .and absolutely guarantee, the result of the treatment—Received. BOROUGH FOREMAN'S REPORT.
The Borough foreman reported having carted 101| yards of metal to Thompson, Ballanpe, Vogel, and Grey street, Plimjmer Terrace aind East Road, having graded metal in Grey Street, finished filling in approach to new bridge crossing Stansell's drain, cleaned water tables in Thompson and B-ryce streets, and Nathan Terrace. . THE WATERWORKS. The Engineer said that the men, had finished at the top of the water works and were now getting ready to receive the contractors for jointing the 8-inch pipe. He was held up for Want of two valves and two flange pieces, but received advice to-day that they would be here in a day or two. The silent policeman casting was here 'and the other part was nearly made. He was now waiting for the Po.wer Board Engineer to supply the globe, wire and fittings. FOXTON ROAD.
Gr. Carter stated that, on returning from Foxton, he was struck with the shocking state of road between tho bridge and Shannon. People would sooner travel a few miles further and go to Foxton rather than go- over the bad road. —Resolved that the Council again bring the matter under the notice of the Horowhenua County Council asking them: to do something to the road as it is almost impassable. RUBBISH « TIPS ON ROADSIDES. Cr. Garter askoji the protection of the Council through, damage to his property due to rubbish being thrown on his place. It wa.s pointed out-that the Council provides a rubbish, depot and resolved that the police be asked to take action and (pjrosiecute all .pensions making rubbish tips of the roads, STREET IMPROVEMENT LOAN. Cr. Hyde asked what progress was mad© for the loan in connection with the street improvements. Cr. Butt replied that the road committee went over the streets with the Engineer and showed him what was necessary 'but further baa been heard of the matter. If .the loan was not gone on with immediately tlie road committee would spend the money on the estimates at once. HOUSING MATTERS IN COMMITTEE
Gr. Hyde, chairman of the Housing Committee, presented a report, which was dealt with - in committee,
