THE CABARET.
Despite the counter attraction in tile town and the very had weather, the first; cabaret evening to be held in Shannon was a decided success. The HaJl was a veritable fairy land, being arranged with tables and chairs ail round and each table screened with a fringe of vari-coloured steamers. " The supper buffet was arranged at one side of the hall, and did a splendid business in fruit salads, trifles, tea, coffee, etc. An outstanding feature of the evening was the splendid Jazz Orchestra which was comprised of piano (Mis Boviis), violins (Misses Pjckles and Terry) and Mr Mason), cornet (Mr A. Freeman), flute and jazz effects (Mr W. Quarrie), Stvanee whistle (Mr H. Hook), • and more jazz effects (Mr W. Quarrie). AH present were loud in praise of the excellent dance music supplied and - of the most enjoyable evening. Items during toe evening were given by the Thompson sisters, Phyllis Paton, Mrs,, Melles and Mr S. Henry, extra dances being played by Mr Mason and Mr L. Wilson. The Balloon dance caused much amusement, but could not *be decided, there beingfour balloons left intact at the end of the evening. “The Lucky Spot” waltz was , a new idea for Shannon and toe prizes were won by Miss Watterston aiid Mr Rathbcne. “Rainbow Wands” and “Throw out streamers” added a' gay note to.the evening, and altogether the venture, was a m6st successful one, which it is anticipated the promoters may continue at an early date.
