POWER ON THE FARM

PROTEST AGAINST SUGGESTED

CHARGE.

The advent of .electric power to the milking shed was referred to at the district conference of the Dan J Farmers' Union at Palmerston North last week, by Mr E. TliomaS (Kaiwhata) who voiced displeasure at the expressed intention of the 'ManawatuOrona Power Board to "" charge the dairy farmer £5 per year per h.p. tor. motors supplying current to dairy and in addition 2*d per unit for current. Instancing a 2 h.p. motor the speaker said this worked out at. approximately 4Jd per unit, and ho asked why the dairy farmer should be placed upon a more expensive basis than the .industrial manufacturer, who was called upon to pay only 3id per unit for current.* The "president (Mr P. J. Small) said the power was not yet available from Mangahao. and the Board had not definitely decided what the charge to farmers would be, though the speaker felt assured that .it would be at, the lowest possible cost. • . A resolution was passed asking that motors for milking plants should be placed on the same basis as those used for industrial purposes.
