4 THE MONEY HELD UP. The Town Clerk reported to the Council at tlicir meeting on Tuesday night, that he had written to the Superintendent of the State Advances Office, Wellington, last week pointing out that tlie Council in a few days will be in extreme financial difficulties unless an amount of £2OOO is received from the Department. He pointed out to tlie Council that £SOOO had hden received (which wais tjhe grant allowed by the Act tor last year. Tine Goiveminent only granted £SOOO each year on any one loam. Tlie application for a further .£SOOO for the present financial year was made at tlie end of March last and it is £2OOO of this'.amount; that the Council are now wailing for. He had received a wire that day from the State. Advances Office advising that the Department was unable to consider further applications at present. He pointed out the . seriousness off the position if the money was not. available at an earjy date. The matter was considered by the Council and it. was resolved to get into communication with the member for tlie district and to point out to him the serious consequences which might arise if the money is not available iminedsitely. Mr Liuklater, M.P., lias since been informed of the position and he and the Mayor went down to Wellington to enquire into the matter. On Friday his Worship tlie Mayor visited Wellington and interviewed Mr Massey in connection with the' matter and as a result, satisfactory arrangements were come to.
