METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVING. Tlie annual tea, social and prizegiving of tlie Methodist Sunday School was held in the Parish Hail on Tuesday evening, when there was a large attendance of children and parents. At 6 p.in. tlie children sat down to a- plentiful supply of good tmngs which hud been provided by tiie ladies of the church, and needless to say, full justice was done. Prior t,o the commencement- of the social opportunity was taken by the chairman (Mr Baxter) and Mrs Carter, in fitting speeches, to welcome tiie Rev. and Mrs Peryniun, to Shannon. Rev. 'Perymun "aluitjably replying. Tiie Rev. Peryman then presided and a thoroughly enjoyable social foil owed, a, splendid programme being submitted, tlie items being:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Doris Carter; violin solo, Mr G. Dyers; recitation, Master Wilfred Baxter; song, Mona Ingley; recitation, Evelyn Swindlehurst; song, Mr Thwaites; recitation, Amy Woot-ton; violin solo, Mr ,W. Roberts; recitation, Mrs Gibson (Levin); song, Mi's Bishop; recitation, Ngaii'e Payne; dialogue, Sunday School teachers; musical duet-, Eva Qunrrie and \V. Roberts; recitation, Maggie and Annie Roberts; song, Mrs Gibson; recitation, Mr Roberts ; "violin solo, Miss W. Pickles; duet, M. and 1.. Woofton ; pianoforte solo, Mona Ingley; recitation, Miss Joyce Carter: quartette, Messrs Roberts (2) and Barber.

About half way through the concert programme the'' prize-giving for the vear's work took place, Mr T. F. Gibson, now of Levin, for many years .superintendent' of the .Sunday "School, making the presentations. ' ? During the evening Mr Ewan Barber, secretary of the" Sunday School, read his report which showed the school had a roll number of 65 with an average attendance of 35; the total school collections wore €lO Os 10d, the total receipts being £lB 6s 2,',d. while the expenses had -been £ls 15s Id, which included £8 spent in prize money, showjng a credit- balance of £2 Us ljd. Mr Roberts, superintendent, of the Sunday School pointed out- that they hoc! not lust ground, but had gained a little, but he wanted more. ITo asked the parents to take more interest. in the Sunday school work ,a,s the child of to-day was tlie man iof tomorrow and if they wanted to do good to the Empire fi could lie done through the Sunday School. He said he Would like to see more parents at church and if a prize will bring them lie will get the committee, to provide one.

A pleasing little ceremony then took place, when Miss S. Quiarrie, in a most appropriate little speech, presented Mr Gibson, tlie school's late superintendent, with a token of appreciation of his Services to the Sunday School, which was lollowed by the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

•Mr Gibson, in accepting the presentation, thanked all for the appreciation they had shown. Alter leaving Shannon lie had carried on the work until a superintendent could be round and ,lie luul been rewarded by Mr Roberts taking over tlie work. Tic suggest'd that it would be fitting to have a. to,blot- in the school to recognise tlie work of tiie founder and past superintendents' of the school. Tlie following are the prize winners : —■
