SATURDAY’S GALE.
A STRONG BLOW. One of ihe severest gales for some time past raged in Shannon on Saturday lust. The wind, which came Irom a south-easterly direction, blew with hurricane force, uud it was only those who had .need who ventured out. A bomber of old fences were blown down and minor damage dune, hut no damage of a very serious nature was reported; although a chimney was blown dawn in Plimmer Terrace and the skylight over Mr Hook’s billiard room was smashed. The telephone poles near the Miranui mill have been blown over-almost on to lite ground. y At Tokomaro, where the gala \v;;y also felt. a. hifjihr’s motor van was overturned; hut the damage'done was not great. The ‘officer in charge of the sub-sta-tion was on sh'k leave- but word Jvp been left with the Town -'Clerk to ring no Air Walker, the Power Board Inspector in Levin, in case of need.. This was done .and although the car hat I lo travel in some parts of the Shannon Heights 'a.t five, miles ah hour, the fault was soon located and the light in full working order lor Saturday night. Comment was-made upon the smartness of the repair work and the very obliging- manner in which the staff acted- towards tin: consumers in the emergency. , x
