A dribbling rush heaided by sands, wi-th Kiriona following up well, saw the latter score. Sands tooks the k'ek. but failed to add the extra points. Frominow until the end of the game Foxton becaime aggressive and Shannon took a turn defending their fer-ri-torv, Foxton eventually seemirhig tlieir' first try as a. result of a splendid passing ' rush hi which Westcoitit scored, lie took the kick himself, but failed. OTAKI BIiAT WANDERERS. Tiiu • W'anUcrovs—Uluki game on .•Saturday, which resulted in a win lur Otaki' by a narru'w margin 01 o—I) was undoubtedly a win lor the be tun; leajn. Wanderers had lost their sheet anchor in Jacob, whu was in Auckland with the Maori team, and although Lie van was absent from otaki, also with the Maori team, his absence did nui compensate lor the joss ul Wanderers' big captain. Without Jacob, Wanderers forwards lacked the punch which would have carried them through, and yet through the failure of their hookers to get, me ball iu the scrums they were compelled to.play a forward, game. Had I hey opened the game up and given (lie backs a. chance the result might have been different,
Wanderers playing with the wind behind thorn pressed hard in the first spell and live minutes alter the opening of the game Mollison got lite ball over the line in a light scramble. 'U'" referee decreed a scrum live van. out, from w'hicli a. free kick was given to Wanderers. An easy kick just failed striking the bar and Wanderers' chance of an opening score was gone. The spell ended with Otaki forcing, repeated .scoring movements being trustrated by the splendid tackling o. Stoker at full-back.
With the change over, it appeared a.s if Wanderers who had just b'en able to bold their Q.wn, would surely go down before the better combination- of their opponents. It was h way through the spell however beforea splendid bit of passing right across the field enabled D'A,th to get over. .Jacob Llitiku picked up at the 25 and threw to Moses who- sent it on to Ha.karaia. . Hakarala side-stepped two of Wanderers' backs and then, collared" bv McDonald, sent the ball out to Davev D'Atih. who got throng! and running round planted the ball behind the goal-posts. Tahiwi failed with the kick. Wanderers made repeated efforts to equalise the scores and on three occasions were run out at the corner flag. Tho (1 of once, however, ppowd
too sound and the whistle went with W'andet-ers strongly on the offensive, Mavintr jhit up a considerably better showing than even their partisans had .expected. THIRD GRADE. WISRAitOA 17 v.
