TEN THOUSAND A MONTH,

Plans to erect wooden "mass-pro-duction" houses, delivered, "ready to erect," in Great Britain, for approximately £275 each, and at the rate of 10,000 a month, are being considered by the Ministry of Health. The Alexander Lumber Company of the United States and Canada., from ( whom the suggestion comes, claims ' that what the Ford car is to the motoring world, the Alexander "lumber house" will be to the British Housing problem. ' The houses, which are of two storeys, are built in pairs, and each contains a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and three bedrooms. It ia claimed that they are as safe from fire as brick houses, and that tn"cy will not only last as long, but that they are cooler in summer and drier in winter. The cost of foundations and sewering should not exceed £IOO per house, which would bring the total cost to £375 each house.

The Alexander lumber housed have a frame of pitch-pine, which hardens with age. The w*lls, which are hollow, are finished internally with fireresisting and externally with cement stucco or red cedar "siding - ."
