SHANNON BOWLING CLUB.
PLANS FOR PROGRESS. A general meeting of members of the shannon Bowling Club w«s held in tlie pavilion on Friday evening to discuss matters in general concerning the Club. The president (Mr E. Spencer) presided.
The secretary (Mr Murphy) explained the financial position of the Club, which stowed that the club had gone back slightly, the' membership now standing at 36. The president said tlie first .did most important question they had to 1 consider was that of the condition, of their green and the matter of putting it in order. He said he recognised that it was all ia question oi expense. Asked his opinion Mr Gunning said a good green was necessary it they wanted good players. He had pi aye.. on worse greens but. the club's green was not as good as it might be. There wtere depressions and to "put it in thorough order would cost £2O to Loll. He said he would like to see it as good as it could he made. The president said that, to do the .work properly it .would Jilean an individual effort as the club could no finance it, and that, being the case it could only be put in • average order, iie suggested that something be done iin the way of top-dressing.

it was recommended that the matter be left, in abeyauce and tlie club make up its mind" to do it next year at the proper time. Mr Beard, speaking in reference 1 to the finances, said he wanted a good green and as'ked i'f members .were willing to help get one. If so, he said, surely if the Tennis Club could raise money the Bowling club could do..likewise. He suggested getiting together and*making a move in that direction. He also brought up the question of ('ncouraging new members, and pointed out that if the old members did not assist the yoiung players by giving them instruction, and helping, to get them games the Club was going to suffer. He mentioned this matter as he had an absolutely sincere desire to see the club go ahead. .Several members agreed whih Mr Beard in respect to his wish to see more encouragement given to now
players, and something will be to arouse 'enthusiasm among them in the future.
Mr Murray: "Take a way bowling and tennis and Shannon will, be Avithout recreation." He agreed the question was one of individual effort and each member should be a sport and assist. Mr Beard then, moved and Mr Murray seconded, "'That a Committee be set up to go into, ways and means of raising sufficient funds to • liquidate the debt at the bank and for improvements to the green."—Carried. The following comniiititee was.then appointed Messrs Beard, .Murray, Wattier-ston, Clayton, and the president and secretary ex officio, and a ladies' o.ommii!t.tco. , consisting of the wives of the .above members. ..It was a reeouiirnehda.tion to the, committee that they meet a c'ominitte" from the Tennis Club with a view to making a. combined effort to raise funds.
In regard tjo the croquet, ground Mr Butt, maintained that until it was top- dressed and put in order it was impossible for ladies.to play. Quite a httmiber were willing to become members which would bring in revenue. The President: This would be embraced in the scheme.
