SHANNON BOXING ASSOCIATION.
■' A meeting-' of members of the Shannon Boxing Ass-oeiaMOn was held in tiie .Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, there being a small attendance of members. Mr G. Murphy presided over the meeting. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr Dawson, secretary of the Wellington Boxing Association, wrote in connection wftlj. the payment ol" trophies to four hoys belonging to Wellington who took part in tiie opening tournament, ol the local Association arid over wihdh there had been a misunderstanding on the part of the local committee as to payment, they being under the impression that they j had visited Shannon at tin* invitation of the Wellington Association and did not expect trophies for tiie bouts they had taken part in.—. After some controversy -on the imaitler the Association decided to forward the trophies. The iManawatu A.' and P. Association wrote asking for the loan of the Association’s staging.—Agreed to grant use of same for £5, the A. and P- Association to bear' expense of removal. * GENERAL. At a previous meeting Mr j. T Bovis resigned as secretary. Mr \l. Beard has been acting in that capacity pro tem, but owing to business reasons lie could not carry out the duties permanently and on liis motion Mr H. Hook .was elected to the position, tin 1 latter start ing- lie ~wuo.ld do all in liis power to further'the interests of the Association.
Tiie secretary w:a’.s ' empovtered to register the Association and as soon as 'this has been done tie is to call a general meeting to consider tbe question of holding a novice tournament as a. means of creating more interest in boxing. Mr Steer said Mr Potbury, the well known Palmerston North trainer, had informed him he had a lot of boys in training and he'had been giving exhibitions *>f boxing and wrestling in Palmerston North free of'charge, taking up a collection. He had sugI'esfed milking exchange visits between the local boys and the Palmerston North lads which lie considered would help to further the sport. Mr Beard suggested that, the local
Association endeavour to work in with Levin and Foxton, who- might, like to hold a, tournament in their own town, by the local Association pi Tin i tiling them to run tiie tournament under their auspices. ■ „
