FAMOUS CLOSE'GIVES WAY TO RESTAURANT. Montague Close, Southwark, on which once stood the London residence of Lord Mounteagle, of Gunpowder Plot, fame, is to be built over by the extension of restaurant premises.. Lord Mounteagle took the famous anonymous letter he received, Warning him to keep a way 'from the opening oi' Parliament, to Tunes L, with the result that the plot was frustrated. As u result dwellers in the Close were made free of actions for debt or trespass, but this privilege was so much abused Jhat the close became a refuge for criminals of all kinds, and ' was finally suppressed.
