SHANNON GOLF CLUB.
OPEN THEIR SEASON. On Saturday last in fine weather, despite the heavy rain of the previous night the Shannon Golf Club opened their season, on the new links on Mr' G. Mitchell’s property, East road in the presence of about. 50 players. The links were found to be in exeel lent order, especially so, as there are always obstacles to contend with in tiiepreparation of a new course. Tlte greens passed all expectations, however. In spite of it. being the first, day’s golf of the season some good 'cards were handed in, Which savours well for future matches. The groundsman, Mr R. Hayes,, had not only moulded very enjoyable links out of natural country, but bad also transformed tlte sited, mjnik-injg it much .more comfortable with windows, seats, etc., which will be much appreciated. Although a new course, the present, links are already much better than the old, as several of the holes are longer, the greens more even, arid the country drier. To the new member especially, the course floes not cause that tiredness that is po often a characteristic of a new player’s trials. During the afternoon re fresh intents were supplied by tiie ladies. Mrs Dinn-ie being in charge; and the table spread under the trees presented a, picnic-like appearance and was most enjoyable.
