SHANNON RAILWAY STATION.
DEPARTMENT REFUSES EXTENSION CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTION. At the Chamber ml Commerce meeting a reply was received from the Minister of Railways, through Mr J. Linklater, M.'P., re the Chamber’s request for a dry dock and urging improvements to'the parcels office stud ladies’ waiting room 'at the Local railway station. The Minister stated that the congestion ,a;t the parcels offlct was caused principally by traffic arising from the Manga Imo hydio-elecra,, _ works, and that the greater part <> the traffic would cease during to. present year and the traffic will them return to normal, when fhe present building should be sufficient for requirements. In respect to additionto the ladies’ waiting room he considered the present building reasonable for requirements of those travelling bv rail and there’ was no neces sity for enlargement. The Chamber’s requests cpuld not be complied with. After the Chamber had discussed ilk l reply, it was decided that a further letter be forwarded the Minister urging improvements to the parcels office and pointing out t.o hint the congestion that is taking place daily: also lo write Mr -T. Linklater. M.P., acknowledging the letter and linking him tor his efforts on the Whimbar's behalf.
