NAMES PLATES OR FOOTPATHS?
(To the Editor). Sir,—in the last issue oi your paper 1 saw a letter from “Guunnerciai Traveller” muling fault wnU me Mayor of Shannon for votiug against the motion of Cr. Beard to nave name plates put on tne .Shannon streets. I would hKe to write a lew words in appreciation Qf tne stand the Mayor took up with regard to this matter. 1 quite agree with him tanu wo snouid be thankful to. him. in my opunoii we are more m need oi (good footpaths than name plates on mo streets, and “Commercial Traveller'' siiouia know that-this is not London, wliere naunle piUtes are spilling on every corner and that there is not the same need for them here. In any case wily should we be put to such expense, i daresay it would cost £6OO ur £7OO m put name plates on all tne streets m Shannon as suggested by ur. Beard, and 1 am satisfied that this money wbyld be better spent in nupruviug the footpaths of the back streets as suggested by Mr Murdoch, the Mayor. —1 am, etc., ratepayer
