BRAVE MAN DROWNED.
WHILE SEARGHING FQR ANOTHER VICTIM. ~ WAIHI. April 14. A sequel to the accidental, drowning of Christina K. Poole, a girl aged yeais, in the Oninemun river on April 8,: was furnished on Saturday afternoon, when Harry Morris, aged 23- while assisting- in the search oi the flooded river for the body was ‘drowned. ■ Evidence at the inquest showed that a‘ party ’on a raft, including the-de-ceased having, learned that the body of the* jftrl had been found, tried to get the raft ashore but failed owing to the strong current. Deceased yolun ! teered to swim to the bank with a i rope attached to his body. The current caught tlie rope and the men on the raft] had to let it go as the rope dragged I deceased under. A gallimt attempt at rescue was made byfa man named MCLeod. Three times he' caught hold of deceased, but could nut keep a grip. . The body was recovered 45 minutes later. ’ '
