SHANNON JUNIORS BEAT KOPUTAROA.
A junior match, Shannon v. Koputaroa, was playied at Shannon. The Shannon seniors had a bye, Surprisingly good form Was genefi ally displayed in the junior gam<j and being the first match of the season both teams took advantage of the opportunity to experiment with their new players by frequently changing positions. The attendance was small but thie day ideal for football and the Domain was in good order. The teams took the field as follows: Shannon: J. King, Johnson, Moore, Kopata, Hunt, Taylor, Guy Torrey, MoEwian, Morgan, Ross, Wright, Fitzgerald, Wilson and Cede. Koputaroa: T. MicDSoniald, O’lDfonnell, Tohia. McDonald, J. McMillan, P. Nepia, T. Nepia, J. Kopera, Pene, Ross,' Taylor, Buckman, H. McDonald, Perry, Harvey and McGregor. Koputaroa:. kicked off and soon had Shannon on the defensive, but the Shannon forwards, under the leadership of Fitzgerald, dominated play for a period, though their backs were caught nappingt when the Koputaroa forwards counter-attacked and P. Nepia by not passing lost a try. The spell ended no score. In the second spell Shannon made the pace very fast and as the result of some fine passing, Shannon scored. R'opajta had thie kick ait goal but failed 3—o. Soon after resuming Hunt kicked a goal from a drop kick, bringing the scores up to 7—o. Just before call of time Torry secured the ball freon a line out and beating all opposition scored. McEwan was successful with the kick though from a difficult angle. The g(ime ended: Shannon 12, Koputaroa 0. Mr J. iSciascia Was referee.
