LEVIN MARKET.
GOOD ENQUIRY FOR BEEF
The outstanding feature of the Levin weekly sale yesterday was the large yarding of fat cows, and the exceptional quality of the offering. Between 50 and. 60 fat cows were sold under the hammer, realising up to £6 18s for top weights, but whilst this represents an upward tendency, the rise is-not so sharp as the price would .indicate when taken, on the basis of weight. A good line of Jersey cross weaner heifers brought £3 3s. Fat sheep also sold well, but ih many instances failed to . reach the vendors’ reserves, there being a feeling current that there will be a risie m this class of stock in the, near future. Fat mixed sex sheep sold to 36s for an extra choice line, fat wethers being passed at 355. Pigs sold at slightly reduced rates on last week’s sale and may be expected to decline from now on, only the exceptional milk supply for this part of the season having kept the price up so long. Prices were as follow: Pigs.—Suckers 5s 6d to 6s 6d; weavers 9s 6d to 14s, stores 18s 6d to 255, light porkers 36s to £2, heavier £2 7s 6d to £2 16s, light baconers £3 Bs.
